Short Films
A short film series exploring the concept of performing time and how the temporality of improvisation can be captured on film. For this project I am working with performers/movers and creatives from different cultural backgrounds. My goal is to capture the body performing in the here and now based on whatever concerns the mover in the moment of making.

Documentary Dance Film
When I started the project, my goal was to present how the community will be playing a vital role on the research process and creation that will lead to the materialisation and visualization of a short dance film. For the creation of this project/ residency I worked with all artists and performers virtually. During rehearsals I focused on the exploration of the community that both dancers are involved at and the cultural backgrounds they hold. Later on, I came to realise, that the more I was working with the dancers it was more obvious to me that the best way to tell their stories, was to let share those through their dance and the use of speech, two very strong and bold ways they are comfortable using to express themselves. My goal as a creator and director, choreographer was to make sure they had the environment around them and the safe space that is required to develop those.

b-earth is a short movement improvisation film, one of the series. I created this short film almost a year ago. In March 2019 when the lockdown happened and the coronavirus pandemic brutally and unexpectedly entered our lives, I came to realise the real purpose behind this film I had created. I usually find inspiration in less informative spaces, where I can come in contact with myself and find inner peace. In these moments I find, is when we tune in to sensation. Usually in environments that offer to us the feeling of freedom, the senses are awake, the smell, the touch, the breath come altogether to complete the puzzle of sensation and therefore in my case the impulse to start a movement improvisation. The use of sound, created by Calum, played a vital role for the completion of the film, in his words: “With this music, I tried to emphasise the tactile nature of the video and improvisation. I used foley, field recordings and other non-musical sounds to create a rhythm and texture that acts as an extension of the movement.” As many of us experienced, especially in London when I was during lockdown, parks and nature was the most popular choice when in need to escape from reality and find one’s self. I hope you enjoy this film.

A movement improvisation on camera. When home becomes a holiday place. When time seems so little, you feel your body is falling apart. When you pretend nothing has changed, though you are not the same. When with all the energy you have left you are trying, but it is never enough. When memory becomes the present and you are trying to make it last forever.

Conf-lict-dential
A movement improvisation on camera. When the maker/mover and the performer/mover are both required to improvise together whilst the one is leading and the other is following/observing/documenting. When the politics and the crisis of the conflict is embodied and spoken through impulse.
